Abstract

This study attempted to identify one of the New Rhetoric Laws (Al-Hajjaj), which is the law of benefit, feasibility, and expediency. It examined the representations of this law in the field of Arabic rhetoric, poetry, and the Holy Qur’an, especially in the studies of the miraculous nature of the Qur’an, through selected model applications from these fields. The research adopted the descriptive analytical approach, where the law was carefully described, and the selected models were analyzed in a manner that clarifies the presence of this law in the aforementioned fields.

The findings of the study showed a remarkable presence of this law in the field of Arabic rhetoric in its three sections, as well as in Arabic poetry and studies of Qur’anic miracles. These conclusions showed the presence of indications for this law among some Arab rhetoricians and critics and the presence of rhetorical terms similar in definition to that of using the law. The results also indicated that this law seeks to achieve one goal in the two rhetorics, which is to imbue the wording with expressive energies and achieve force that guarantees guidance to reach the desired result that qualifies Arabic rhetoric to be communicative rhetoric that considers the pragmatics categories.  The research concluded that the concepts and terminology of Arabic rhetoric are suitable to be studied and analyzed according to the theories of argumentation and pragmatics.
