Narration in the poetry of Mourid Al-Barghouthi: His Collection of Poetry "Wake Up to Dream" as a Case Study

Abstract

This study investigates narration in the poetry of the Palestinian poet Mourid Al-Barghouthi with special reference to his latest collection of poetry "Wake Up to Dream." The study begins with a theoretical introduction to the interaction amongst literary genres, the poet’s narrative poetry and the methodology used in the study. The study, in its practical aspect, consists of four subheadings, which in turn constitute the features of narrative in Barghouthi's poetry, as illustrated in his volume of poetry. These subheadings are: the performativity of narration and the coding of meaning; rhetorical description and visualization; the scenic screenshot and the production of the narration; the story of objects and narratives about creatures. The study concludes with a summary of its findings and conclusions.
