The Impact of Linguistic Pragmatics in the Process of Understanding the Meanings of Simile in Arabic

Abstract

This research aims at clarifying the impact of linguistic pragmatics in the process of understanding the meanings of simile in Arabic. This could be underlined in the following questions:

1. What kind of meanings can be extracted from of simile in Arabic?
2. Why did the popular similes continue to exist despite the fact that some stages of development can be dispensed?
3. How can we build a conception of chronological order for similes?
4. How can we extract the aesthetic Arabic conception of simile?

This research has been built according to the descriptive methodology.

The research ended up with the following results:

1. The meanings of similes are different according to the existence of the structure of each simile.
2. The popular similes continue to exist according to the functions.
3. The chronological order of the similes is built according to the principles of language development.
