Textual Standards and Functional Dimensions and Values of Grammarians' Stories in Translation Books: A Phonological and Morphological Study

Abstract

This attempted to examine the textual standards and functional dimensions, and values of grammarians' stories in translation books from a phonological and morphological perspective. Each grammarian's story represented a comprehensive text with integrated dimensions that consisted of three pillars are standard textual aspect, functional linguistic aspect exemplified in phonological and morphological rules, and value aspect.

The study used the textual linguistic approach as a modern approach based on a set of criteria and foundations that study in texts’ coherence and consistency. It adapted the descriptive analytical approach in extrapolating textual models from grammarians’ biographical books to identify the textual and functional criteria of stories. The results showed that grammarians' stories presented linguistic information according to a partial but not a comprehensive view in a suspenseful format with the aim of entering into the chapters of language and grammar and expanding them. They established a group of phonetic issues, such as replacing the letter “ba" with "mim" in Mazen's dialect, and the phonetic fluctuations between the letters "sad" and "seen" and the positions in which they occur. In addition, the findings indicated that grammarians’ stories presented precise meanings of some morphological structures and dealt with many aspects of melody in a way that the reader cannot forget due to its connection to life events, which embodies the standards on which the text is based, such as casting, weaving, situational, informative, and acceptability. The result referred to important morphological phenomena such as the phenomenon of words in which masculine and feminine are equal, where the phenomenon of morphological structures used and neglected structures in Arabic speech such as the structure of "af'alut" and "af'alit", and the phenomenon of the permissibility of pluralizing words that carry the meaning of plural such as (mahranjam).
