Abstract

This study aims to determine the impact of geographic factors on the decision-making process in Jordan's foreign policy. The Syrian crisis was taken as a model to understand and analyze the strategic importance of Jordan's geographical location and to define the boundaries of the geographical factor's influence on Jordan's foreign policy decision-making process.

To achieve these goals, the study starts with the hypothesis that there is a correlation between the geographical location of Jordan and the decision-making process in Jordanian foreign policy towards the Syrian crisis. It also adopts the scientific method as a general framework dominated by methodological integration to complete the study, as it used the descriptive analytical method in studying the strategic importance of Jordan's geographical location. And the decision-making approach in studying the impact of the geographical factor on the Jordanian foreign political decision-making process.

The study concludes that the geographic factor is a determinant in the decision-making process of Jordan's foreign policy. It played a crucial role in guiding Jordan's foreign policy towards the Syrian crisis, compelling Jordanian decision-makers, despite facing numerous pressures, to adopt a balanced stance on the crisis and its stakeholders.

The study recommends increasing cooperation with neighbouring countries to maximize the advantages provided by the geographical location and enhancing security coordination with Syrian authorities regarding border areas.
