The Semantic and Linguistic Values that the Head Acquires from the Genitive in the Construct State Construction in Arabic

Abstract

This study addresses the semantics that the head acquires from the genitive in the construct state construction, as synthetic relations contribute to the speech organization, its coherence and its consistency because it strips the head from the clues of separation such as nunation (the letter (noon)) and the definite article. The construct state construction also contributes to the analysis of the semantic dimension that is acquired through contextual clues in order to reveal the syntactic and semantic meanings that the head acquires from the genitive. The study adopted two approaches: the inductive approach and the descriptive analytical approach.

     The study concluded that the construct state construction includes semantic, grammatical and formal advantages that the head acquires from the genitive. The study identifies twenty-five semantic and grammatical meanings of the construct state construction with a prominent role of the context in revealing those meanings.
