The Level of Sports Culture among School Headmasters and Headmistresses in the Education Directorates of the Capital Amman Governorate from their point of view

Abstract

The study aimed to identify the level of sports culture among headmistresses and headmasters in the education directorates of the Capital Amman Governorate from their point of view .The descriptive approach was used, and the study sample consisted of (78) headmasters and headmistresses who practice the function of school administration in the directorates of education in the Governorate of the Capital Amman, and they were chosen by the purposive method. The researchers used a tool to measure the level of sport culture that consisted of three domains: nutrition, strength, and sport practice, distributed into (24) items, which were subjected to the reliability and validity factors. After a statistical analysis, the results of the study indicated that the level of sport culture for school headmasters and headmistresses in the education directorates of the Capital Governorate came within two levels (high, and medium). As for the classification of the domains, the domain of strength and the domain of nutrition came at a high level , and the domain  of sport practice with a medium degree, and it was found that there are no statistically significant differences at the significance level  (α≤ 0.05) for the level of sport culture for school headmistresses and headmasters in the education directorates of the Capital Amman Governorate according to the variables of gender, educational qualification, and experience. The study recommended holding awareness-raising workshops for school headmasters and headmistresses about the importance of sport activity and its role in public health as well as in the formation of a balanced personality. The study also recommended that school headmasters and headmistresses should be urged to practice sport activities because of its importance in maintaining health and in eliminating diseases of lack of movement, and thus creating an example for teachers and students, where practicing sport activities is a lifestyle.
