Abstract

This study aimed to identify the level of work stress among workers with drug addicts and abusers and its relationship with personality style. The study sample consisted of (97) individuals working with drug addicts and abusers. To achieve the goals of the study, a work stress scale was developed, and the Eysenck scale was used for personality types, and their validity and reliability were confirmed. The results indicated that the arithmetic averages of the sample members’ estimations of work stress came to a medium degree at the total level, and at the level of dimensions, they were medium on the dimensions of overload, conflict of values, and lack of feedback, and low on two dimensions: deficit and lack of information. The results also indicated that (46.2%) of the sample members are characterized by the trait of extraversion, and (53.8%) are characterized by the trait of introversion, while (47.3%) are characterized by neuroticism, and (52.7%) are characterized by balance. The results showed statistically significant differences at the total level of work stress for the dimensions of role conflict, disability, and lack of information due to the personality trait variable (neuroticism - balance), and indicated that there was no statistically significant correlation between work stress and personality patterns (extroversion-introversion), while it showed a statistically significant inverse correlation with the balance dimension, and a positive direct correlation with the neuroticism dimension The results did not show statistically significant differences in the level of work stress due to the gender variable. The study concluded with a number of recommendations, the most important of which are planning group recreational activities to relieve work pressures within institutions and to exchange experiences.
