Abstract

The study aimed to identify the most prevalent forms of digital violence practiced by fans and followers of sports teams on social media, their contribution to the escalation of violence, and the resulting consequences.

The study relied on the descriptive-analytical approach using an electronic survey method to achieve its objectives and analyze the repercussions from the perspective of club presidents and members in the central and the southern regions of Jordan. This methodology was chosen due to its suitability for the nature and objectives of the study, as it allows for an accurate analysis of the phenomenon based on field data collected from the targeted sample.

The study found that there are various forms of violence resulting from the use of social media by sports fans and followers. It was revealed that the most common form is verbal violence, followed by psychological violence, while physical violence was the least prevalent. The overall level of the resulting consequences was high, reflecting an awareness of the seriousness of violent behaviors, their various forms, and their diverse impacts.

It was concluded that certain behaviors on social media lead to various forms of violence due to misuse, resulting in negative effects on individuals, which may escalate into conflicts and disputes
