¬¬¬¬The Degree of Employing Faculty Members the E-Learning Management System (Blackboard) at Umm Al-Qura University

Abstract

This study aims at finding out the degree to which faculty members employ the electronic learning management system (Blackboard) at Umm Al-Qura University during distance education. The study was conducted during the second semester of the academic year 1441 AH, which is the period of the global pandemic (COVID-19), when Saudi education adopted the distance education system for all academic levels, which involves content management tools, electronic interaction tools, and evaluation tools in the learning management system (Blackboard). The sample of the study consisted of 165 members from various colleges at Umm Al-Qura University. The study used the descriptive approach through an electronic questionnaire developed by the researcher. The results of the study showed that the use of teaching tools in the learning management system (Blackboard) by faculty members at Umm Al-Qura University for the three areas of content management, electronic interaction, and evaluation was at an average level. The results also indicated that there were statistically significant differences between the averages of the study sample responses at the macro level according to the variables of previous experience in using the learning management system (Blackboard) in favor of presence of previous experience. However, the results did not show a statistically significant difference related to the variables of gender, college type, and the number of training courses on learning management (Blackboard). The study concluded with a set of recommendations, the most important of which is that more attention should be paid to training faculty members at Umm Al-Qura University on the use of blackboard management systems.
