This study seeks to investigate the stylistics of poetic discourse in the collection"Daraj al-ʻAtma"(Stairs of Darkness) by the poet Hisham Odeh. The study explores the reflection of the poet's state of visual impairment on the stylistics of his poetic text, his struggles, and the changes he introduced in his poetic discourse and poetic flows. The study adopts a descriptive-analytical approach in its investigation. This is achieved by delving into the language and its connotations that align with the poet's expressions, which affected his poetic discourse in the collection. The study also highlights the impact of blindness on the poet’s life, as he grapples with visual impairment and the accompanying distressing events resulting from it.
The study aims to identify the vocabulary of darkness and its contrasts with light and radiance, which the collection encapsulates. These elements constitute the semantic dimension of the structural lines of the collection's poems. The study seeks to establish thematic connections between the state of blindness and the poet's stylistic approach, revealing that darkness, symbolized by visual loss, juxtaposed with light, represented by visual acuity, becomes a significant motif in the construction of the collection. This is accomplished through stylistic devices involving the connotations of linguistic vocabulary, paradox, and linguistic shifts within the collection.
