Abstract

This study aims to introduce essential features of literary expressions’ theory in Al-Ghirbal book by Lebanese Meqaaeel Naimah that distinguishes it from other literary doctrines. It is conducted through rooting an expressive theory that appeared with romantic direction in the West. In addition, the study strives to conclude the most important ideas that Namiyah discussed in his book “Al-Ghirbal”, and his view on language.

Further, the research discusses the idealistic philosophy for Naimyah and its critical origins with expressive literary theory from principles and views.  The study used the analytical descriptive approach in its induction for the critical views mentioned in Al-Ghirbal's book and their relevance to expressive literary theory. It concludes that there is relativity among ideas that Naimyah discussed in his book, reflecting on the expressive literary theory as philosophy of subjective and individual glorification, urging to liberate from classical restrictions in literature, in general, and poetry in particular.
